Anyone Know If There's A Connection To Dysthymia Depression And Epilepsy?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

When I went to a psychiatrist they said they believe I've had dysthymia depression since childhood I've also had epilepsy since childhood. When I was reading up on dysthymia since I've never heard of it it said it can affect the frontal lobe and that's where my seizures come from. Which makes me wonder if anyone's been told they have dysthymia got treatment for it and it helped with their seizures?

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a connection but don't know because I'm not a doctor. With me having seizures for more than 50 years I have to say that it is likely that epilepsy has become part of my core personality. Without it I'm not sure who I'd be as it has impacted all aspects of my life.

I also have a history of chronic long term mild to moderate depression, which sounds similar to dysthmia, although I've never been disgnosed with it and certainly can't diagnose anyone with it.

I just hope you get it all figured out with your doctor, and I hope they can help give you some relief and make you feel better. I do know what having epilepsy since childhood is like and it is devastating. I'm real sorry you have to deal with that. Wishing you a seizure free day!
