Epilepsy Surgery
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Will the SEEG and while the removal of SEEG, the Laser Ablation will be done? or it will be separated? Am wondering because I might do surgery soon. Has anyone done Laser Ablation for frontal cortical dysplasia in the motor area?
And for the RNS case, will it be separated or the same visit after the SEEG?

just in case, has anyone done an epilepsy surgery with Dr. Robert Gross at Emory or knows him?

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member , I won’t be doing the RNS. I’m only doing the DBS. I don’t know if it’s the Same as the SEEG , but I have experienced pin point mapping of my seizures. It was called the GRID test. They opened up my skull where my seizures are active , place a type of electrodes against that area of the brain and hooked the GRID to the EEG monitoring system. This was done before I went in for my temporal lobe brain surgery.

With my brain surgery, the VNS implant along with my DBS surgery coming up, They always did the EEG before any of surgeries, for Epilepsy. I’m sure they’ll do the same with you before the RN surgery.

Hopefully a friend on here who has had brain surgery/surgeries and had the RNS implant can answer those questions for you.

I have not had either, so all I can provide you this link to the US National Library of Medicine where you can find information related to the surgeries and to RNS.

So you are going to have both DBS and RNS at the same time, you haven't done SEEG to PinPoint where the seizures come from to target that area?
