Have You Ever Read The Book A Mind Unraveled: A Memoir?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

If you have not, then it is something that you (as someone with Epilepsy, Seizure Disorder or are the caretaker for someone who is) absolutely need to read to understand how a New York Times best selling author (Kurt Eichenwald) shared his life story when he had his first seizure in the freshman year at college in 1979. By having friends and family members read this book, it will help them to have a better understanding on life with seizures and the scare that is generated by the word Epilepsy… read more

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member It took me 9 months this year before I finally read my first novel, and even longer to complete reading this book that hit so close to home. Do expect that when you read it that you will go through a whole range of emotions. However, I do promise you that by the time that you have reached the end (starting in the last 25%) of this book, you will experiencing some positive emotions. And then you will probably be brought to tears (as I was) by the end of it because you will see as I did that he expressed via this book exactly what it is like to dealing with Epilepsy or a Seizure Disorder and everything in your life that is connected to it. My apologies for those of you that do not believe in GOD, so please read what I am saying as simply the super power of Kurt Eichenwald that kept him alive through what he experienced because of doctors and too many in the world that view the word Epilepsy (and even many Seizure Disorders) and believe it to mean that we have Leprosy and/or that we are faking it whenever we have a seizure because they refuse to learn facts about seizures. And promise me that you never hold back from sharing the challenges that you are experiencing or even venting about life with Epilepsy to myself and your other friends from the team.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member Speaking from personal experience, you absolutely must read this book. However, as I advised my mom when I passed it on to her to read (also from my personal experience with reading it and all of the emotions and painful memories that the first 75% of the book brought before there was lots of positive with still some negative in the last 25% of the book), that you need to read this book with gaps in between to recover from the emotional pain you will feel (so of which will remind you of personal experiences with Epilepsy). And how this amazing man revealed through this book, you have to learn how to deal with the fear of having the next seizure and not let Epilepsy (or anything else take complete control of your life and preventing you from leading a full life). Get a hobby or anything to take your mind (and reduce stress in the process) off worrying about when the next seizure will come. Trust me when I say that this book will really help.

I started to, and rode his roller coaster with him. I also know when my story diverted from his. It was relieving to know others share similar experiences, and his insecurities and hollow answers before TRUE answers appeared, affected me.
