My epilepsy started just as I was about to enter middle school. It started out as petit mal and then increased to grand mal. I have noticed those on this site who said their epilepsy started soon after the death of a loved one or divorce. Is that just happenstance or is it possible that epilepsy can, in some instances, actually be the result of psychological trauma?
There are many possible causes of Epilepsy however, in many cases, the doctors are not able to determine what is the cause for an individual --as was the case with me. There is just too much about the human brain that scientists and doctors still do not fully understand. And even though they have more tools than they did a century ago to assist them, this is often still not enough. Here is more details from the US National Library of Medicine on everything related to Epilepsy

I like the way you answer … ‘John comes up with poignant answer’ as he always has an answer which is good to have & whether you like it or not. But my answer would be I have always been a gran mal epileptic since the age of a 2-3 year old toddler. No epilepsy on both my dad & mums side of the family, so as my cousin says to me, Im the black sheep of the family!!
