Do Any Of You Have Startle Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My daily (no less than 10 times a day) seizures are caused by startles. Research says startle epilepsy is very rare for adults. I'm 29. Any unexpected touch, sound, smell, view, or taste does the trick. Examples: honking horn, my husband kissing me unexpectedly, smelling something strong or stinky, tasting things I don't like, seeing a surprise. Those are just examples. There's 100s more. I blink hard and immediately can't talk or walk. That's the minimum. It can go all the way to jerking… read more

Hi Trisha2 my name is Lee Evans and I suffer from absent seizures, and also go through funny thoughts when I have one I stare into space, and I’ve got a funny taste in my mouth, I also get which to me is very very frightening hallucinations & I don’t know how I can describe this, I get like an out of the body experience it says though everyone around me is extremely real, I could be thinking about a famous film star or popstar and it feels like I’m actually there with them it’s horrifying experience to go through,
And then next thing I know I’m waking up in hospital.
That’s what happens to me when I experience a bad seizure, but thank God it hasn’t happened for a long long time because now I’ve been steady on
Medication for many years so far so good fingers crossed.
Lee Evans.-🤞.-🤭.

My neurologist has been giving me vimpat and xcopri but it isn't working so that's why I might have to have DBS surgery.

Not to that extreme but some smells cause me to have an aura.
How do they treat startle seizures?
