Does Any One Works And If So How Many Hours And Does Your Employer Know?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

My doctor said I couldn't work so it's been years since I've worked and would like to work. My partner think its safe for me but also scared for me to be home alone or anything but says I can work instead of having ssi

I get SSI and I also have a job. There is a limited on how much money I can make.
I work at a place where everybody there has a disability. I feel comfortable there and I don’t have concerns about getting a seizure there.

I worked for 9years until I had my 3children (under the age of 5!!)I took 14years out to be a stay at home mum )but my seizure frequency wasn't a problem Fast forward to 2001 I'd trained as a speech & language therapist &went back to work part time in the NHS At times I could drive but had to hand my licence back in 2011.I had a fantastic Occupational Health Consultant who kept in touch with my Dept as the Equality Act says your employer has to make reasonable adjustments .I had to make so many risk assessment ,they sent me to work alone in a clinc to cover mat leave &I had to have 3monthly sickness reviews!!!.I managed to do 16years before I retired aged 60.I would encourage you to look for a job, make your needs known to your employer. If they won't help you then,IMO they're not worth working fr Good luck

i work (well volunteer at) a boys and girls club. its for a couple of hours (part time). and my bosses know (and encourage to teach about) about my seizures. i volunteer because of ssi. in my case, i will lose my ssi if i work. i have a ride to and from work free of charge (my ssi benefits). so it can be done. i only have 1 part of ssi (medicaid)... i wanna get the other ssi (medicare) because i can get benefits and i can get a part time job without losing my ssi money.
