How Do You Guys Find Other People React To Your Seizures
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Are they mostly supportive? Do they get freaked out? Lately I've had a bit of a hard time because the people around me while they care for me, and they help me they don't keep it a secret that it sometimes too much for them. It hurts me to know I'm hurting others around me.does anyone else feel this way?

It seriously scares people. I feel so sorry for my husband. He feels helpless and scared. That's mainly why I wanted to get my VNS. I have been over 6 months seizure free. I hope he never gets to use that magnet.

When I’m in public and I have seizure 1% of the people by me witnessing my seizures, will come and check on me or wait for me to recover. The 99% of those witnesses just give weird stares at me and don’t do a thing.

When it’s the 99%ers , I just try to ignore them . Then I wipe myself off and go on about my business.

Most of the time people freak out and don’t know what to do. They then come into the FIGHT or FLIGHT for choices. 99% of the time they go into Flight . Very sad , but true.

There just hasn’t been enough education to teach and help people understand this disorder. That why there’s such a big Stigma around it. In some areas they may have an Epilepsy conference For the public, but if those people don’t have Epilepsy or don’t have close family or friend with Epilepsy, Why will they care ? Until they are diagnosed with it or their child is diagnosed, then they have to try and learn about the treatments, how to Live with it, what kind epilepsy they have and what types of seizures.

There are many things to know and understand about epilepsy. The only way people are going to learn anything about epilepsy, is if they were to learn about it in K-12 schools.

We can’t help how people react to seeing us have have a seizure to us it’s normal to them it’s scarey and frightening for close family members they feel helpless that they can’t do anything even some friends but you get some people who are ignorant who just stare at you and give you stinkers I don’t give a toss about them and you do get some people who will understand because they have a friend family member with epilepsy and you can help them I know I given some advice to taxi drivers who have friends kids nieces nephews and it helps them the difference is ok with ourselves and live our life’s without worrying what people are going to say or do they just don’t understand it x x
