Decreased Cognition
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am feeling so hurt and realising reality today. I asked someone at work today if they had seen their neurologist and she said "No next week You've been asking me the same question every time I see you for over a month" Her voice lowered and drifted out by the time she said about the "month". I'm not sure whether she realised my issues or nobody was really listening. the room was full of staff I did say I thought you might of because your voice is croaky as she is having Botox. How much and… read more

You will get over it do something that’s fun for you if you don’t want to out with a family member don’t feel obligated and just say no I’m not feeling like going today who wants to go somewhere and not enjoy something because you don’t feel 100% yet now guilt that is a classic don’t ever let anyone guilt you into anything I learned that the hard way I always did not now I set boundaries I don’t feel guilt ridden to do anything I feel relief x x

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I might have missed it, but did you say in there is somewhere besides the message about your interaction with your neurologist that you had been tested to confirm it was dementia?

Because while there are sources that provide early signs of dementia like the following: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/324516

There is no one test that even doctors have to identify whether a person has dementia/Alzheimer's, but here is a listing with regards to that: https://www.alz.org/alzheimers-dementia/what-is....

The key things to ask yourself is this just a more advanced level of absentmindedness or is there another reason? Refer to these links and do as the second one suggests (in terms of accumulating family history and the like that would be useful to your doctor in addition to the testing that they can do along with all of this information to properly diagnose you).

In my case, I would never be able to tell if I had dementia (unless at some point they develop a test or a brain scan that can identify it all by itself) because my memory recall is completely unreliable. I cannot operate in most situations that require a lot of memory recall without notes (auxiliary memory) to allow me to not rely on memory recall.

If your neurologist doesn't want to provide you with the assistance to find out, then talk to your primary care doctor. And, for the record, I will be 54 next month and have had occasions as you described (asking the question many days in a row or even multiple times in the day) years before this.

However, for the importance of reducing stress (which can lead to many other bad things), find a doctor to do the necessary steps to determine whether you have dementia.

I’m glad the tumor is gone my epilepsy is on my left temporal lobe and I also have lesions as well in my brain an operation is out of the question for me I went through all the tests to if I qualified and sadly too many red flags came I have complex partial seizures focal . Absent I take them in my sleep too I have involuntary movements where I can punch myself on the arms it used to be only on my left side but it’s spilt onto the other side as well I’ve had setbacks it’s took me years I was 29 when I was diagnosed now I’m 44 and you do get on with it there’s the anger frustration even at loved ones but mostly at yourself it takes time I know it did for me count to 3 or 50 if that helps I’m here to talk and so is everyone and it’s good to laugh too x x
