Coronavirus And Epilepsy
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone experienced epilepsy and seizures with the Coronavirus? How bad does it effect those with epilepsy?

I think you may be asking this question a little to early. The cases of reported contagious persons in people outside Asia or Europe is still relatively low. I would wait a little while longer. I would suggest that you check to see if you can get a repeat on medication so you have a script you are using and a back up if needed. At this stage I am more worried about the supply chains being interrupted and not being able to get more medications when required. Just my thoughts.

They have no real evidence for Epilepsy itself. We are supposed to treat it like we have the flu. The flu isn't a joking matter either. If anyone has been told by their doctor or specialist that they are susceptible to illness, or immunocompromised please be careful. Comprised means added danger. Go to a hospital that has "drive through" testing options. You don't go inside to be tested, but you are there at the hospital in case you have any respiratory distress while testing. Also check with your doctor to see if they have video check ups available. The goal is to stay away from each other if anyone is sick. Go to the CDC website for advice on how to stay healthy, even those of you out of the U.S. They have cleanliness advice down to food shopping in case of quarantine. Just be safe.

My dad is highly involved in the US cases for Covid-19 in WA. I will ask if there are any doctor opinions for Epilepsy with it. Most likely they havent experienced it to know anything. It is mostly elderly patients with respiratory or immune system conditions compromising them. We just use caution like the flu, and let me tell you with his job that is a lot of caution! His job is in EVS. Gotta be clean, and gotta be healthy. Really any illness could be a risk I would imagine potentially just from stress, and maybe medication. I know some can't be used. Like Benadryl can cause coma if I were to take it.

I would think that any virus, especially this one, would affect a person with epilepsy, and make seizures worse and more frequent.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member this is 1/2 right. the c-virus (right now) is older people with health conditions. young people will get it as a cold or flu. but it's touch from person to person. a kid would get it and transfer to a parent or grandparent. and the anti vax is almost done but it will be open to the public from less than a year to a year. that vax is a guess so it could be 2 or more years. research is power!
