Forgetting/Remembering To Take Medication
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I sometimes will forget that I already took my seizure meds (I usually take them first thing in the morning and then again at night). I usually try to take them at the same time so that I don’t forget (9am and then again at 9pm). But sometimes I will take them at 9am and then an hour or 2 later I’ll have to remind myself that I already took them. My question is: Does this happen to anyone else here!?

Hows it going. That use to happen to me a handful of times myself. I make sure i set a alarm on my phone to remind me to take my meds, but whats been helping me out more with that issue I went and got a weekly medicine container for my meds so now I know now if I took my meds already for that day and will know if I forgot to take my meds for that day or any day of that week! Its been really helpful because I'm sure your aware of how bad memory loss can be when it comes to your seizures! They even make monthly medicine container for your meds if you wanted to plan out your whole months worth of meds! I think everyone should have one of these for their meds! Its help me so much more on staying on top of taking my meds. You should go get one and try it out! Thier really handy! Its nice to know if you took or forgot to take your meds and Im pretty sure this will help you out! Well im sending you my best wishes that you and your seizures get better and hope that this advice will help you! Have a good day and take care!

You could see about getting one of those medical dispensing devices that realise the pills at a certian time.

You will eventually find what works for you. You know a kind of funny reminder for me while laying down asking myself if ive taken my meds, is im still awake asking. My meds usually put me out for the night. So if im still up, i guess i may have forgot.

Hi! So I am actually an Occupational Therapist in training (with epilepsy) and we do a lot with medication management. One thing that is very helpful is putting a white board or calendar above where you keep your medication box, and every time you take your medication put a check mark on that day! I have struggled in the past with getting in my car and wondering for hours if I took my medication only to have that horrible withdrawal headache kick in that confirms I didn't, or get home and realize I worried for no reason. Another way Is to get a pill box that's divided into days, AM and PM. That's how I do it

Jasmine, maybe you want to consider using a journal to write down the time you took your meds and the amount. You can also write down how you are feeling before and after you take your meds. Your journal can be used for information to share with your doctor. Website seizuretracker.com offer lots of forms you can use to help you track days, times and amount of meds.
