Zebinix/Aptiom (eslicarbazepine Acetate) Side Effects
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi dear all, i have a question, not sure this is how to ask a question.
2 months ago I was put on Zebinix/Aptiom (eslicarbazepine acetate) for focal psychic seizures due to brain surgury to remove a cavernoma. I have side effects and I wonder how long they typically last. I have a four year old daughter and I find it difficult to be the mom I want to be. Side effects I have are: dizziness, nausea, difficulty concentrating, sleepiness, irritability, vertigo and bad headaches. Thanks!

Hi thanks for your reply! I've left 2 messages for my neurologist at the hospital but he still hasn't replied (3 weeks now). It's to the point I can hardly function, i wake up every morning with a terrible head ache. I also have subclinical hypothyroidism, I'm sure that doesn't help. I'm trying to stay positive.

I’m on Aptiom, at 400mg a day there no side effects. Then I had 5 grand mals so I’ve doubled the dose and I’ve got nausea, diplopia, conscription, excessive gas, muscle aches and dark urine. Doc wants me to stick it out As he says Aptiom has a low side effect profile comparatively to other meds so anything else would be worse. I’d be interested to know if others have experienced this as well. I’ve taken lamictal and Keppra they sucked too.

I have never had, what do the Dr's and pharmacist tell you??? Usually all new meds should just take a few weeks for your system to get use to
