Is Driving A Trigger For Anyone?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I feel like driving is a trigger. More than once I’ve had to pull over because I felt this weird sensation like I was going to pass out?

Im 62 ( live in the UK) I have surrendered my licence twice since I was diagnosed 41 years ago ) The frequency & type of my episodes have altered grately over the years & I now have clusters involving 3 or. 4 types of seizure for 24 hours per week Not controlled by meds Reluctantly I surrendered my licence in 2011& will never drive again I was driving up to a busy round about when my left leg ,head & arm began jerking to the left There was nowhere to pull in I knew I was endangering the lives of other people as well as my own I have arthritis ( which I attribute to 40 years of taking many anti convulsants) .

Maybe it is stress related. When I was driving (20 years ago) I was lucky to have my sister in the car. I guess my seizure caused me to have no control over my right foot and I just pressed down on the accelerator driving through a couple red lights. Thankfully, I was able to pull over and hand over the keys. (Sigh, my last time driving) I have taken all the tests and practically all the meds. I even got a VNS and then got the d**n thing out. They’ve just implanted an RNS so we’ll see how that works. Unfortunately it involves me recording every day and sending that recording to my Dr.’s. (If you are familiar with the VNS you’ll understand) I hope that doesn’t last forever (as it’s already been a couple months). I just want a “normal” life (whatever that is)!!!

I’m not quite sure. When I was driving 15 years ago. I did have them while I was driving. Very scary. Maybe stress related while driving.

yes and no, my seizures used to be every hour or so. i had my surgery and my seizures were minimal (mostly evenings or at night). the problem was my right arm isnt doing anything (results from the surgery). and i am slow talker. thats why i won't drive.

Hi I've had quite a few times when I've had to give in my licence ( UK) I haven't driven since 2011I was diagnosed aged 21 & I'm now 62 I know I'll never drive again as my Epilepsy isn't controlled The time I knew I had to stop - I had felt rough in the morning ,drove up to a 4 lane roundabout to turn right My left arm/ leg began to twitch badly & there was no where to pull in I voluntarily handed my licence immediately. This is the time I would really like to drive as I've had arthritis but I've had to accept it
