What Do People Deal With When They Have Photosensativity?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have photosensativity as a trigger. I realized it shortly before I was diagnosed with epilepsy, when it was diagnosed it was confirmed on my EEG that I was photosensative. At the beginning when the problem started, I couldn't handle strobe lights, or flashlights turning on and off quickly or right in my eyes. Lightning was an issue only during the night. Nor fire works. within a year of that my seizures progressed and got worse and so did my photosensativity. So not only I couldn't handle… read more

I forgot to mention my brother inlaw (WHAT AN ANGEL) bought me some sunglasses for Christmas. I swear by these sunglasses!! They have various kinds, but their called “Tac Glasses”. I have three different kinds. One pair is for actual “SUNGLASSES” the next is “SUNGLASSES WITH A FRAME THAT FIT OVER MY GLASSES” and the third are “SUNGLASSES FOR LIGHT OR COMPUTER AND T.V. SCREEN light. THEY ARE SWEET!! Lol and I should get some kind of payment for always recommending them!! Lol. But I also found SOME REDUNDANT NOISE OR ALARMS also make me feel like I’m going to have a seizure as well!! So I wear headphones with the music preset at a certain volume (NOT TOO HIGH BUT HIGH ENOUGH!!) 😊

I actually already had epilepsy (grandmal seizures with then changed to mixed) all my life, but then I ended up having a MAJOR CONCUSSION and a couple afterwards on top of it. One was a fall (backwards) on ice in a doctors parking lot, but the major concussion was due to a fall Down 3 cement stairs during a seizure. I was VERY APPREHENSIVE about even opening my curtains after that, but then I was gifted those glasses. I thought wow what a godsend!! Then I went back to buy another pair and found out they had different types for different things (computer and store light, computer light and sunlight!! Lol their also made kind of floppy to accommodate my eyes and eyes with glasses on. I ended up asking my optometrist if if can get a sunglasses prescription made just like the ones given or I bought for myself? He said yes 😃. As for sound I wear headphones turned low that way the loud noises are muffled and softer 😊. As for the strobe lights lol I’m sorry I haven’t figured that one out yet, but if you do please let me know. Thank you

And the sunglasses actually prevent the seizures? I have been blindfolding myself if I know ahead of time there's gunna be something with certain types of lighting I can't handle. And I'm scared to try anything else, but at the same time I would love to try something else cause blind folds are kinda annoying.

Sometimes. I carry sunglasses. It lowers the light, and lowers any flashing. We recently went to a rock concert, and I brought them. Laser and strobe. They helped cut the glare, and color if my head hurt.
