Does Anyone Deal With Heavy Duty Anxiety/depression With These Challenges?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

A teammate has these symptoms because of depression/anxiety and wants to know if you have them and how you deal with them.

Do you ever deal with people that tell you that the struggle is psychological instead of real as they don't understand how seizures look outside of the convulsions? How do you manage your depression without antidepressants due to the lowered seizure threshold?

Look at a high potency vitamin such as Daily Essential Nutrients from Hardy Nutritional's. I also use Stramonium. Stramonium comes from the Nightshade family. You can get it from a naturopath or homeopath. I use it for anxiety and cognitive issues I acquired from a Left Temporal Lobectomy

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member:. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy will help you find those issues that trigger your anxiety.

For anyone that's interested, look up the book, 'Mind Over Mood.'. This is a self-help book that will provide you with all the necessary tools to help you.

I know that for me I sometimes let my situations put too much stress on me which will lead to a seizure. It's almost like you're in a continuous circle because stress or depression can be a trigger but because of the seizures you can become depressed. I truly believe if that's your situation that no matter how many pills you take it won't help. Only if you know the triggers and stay away from them will you see improvement. Just my thoughts. 😊

I used to have problems with dealing with seizures (gran mal) and the stress of having it and the not knowing of when it would occur. However I dealt with it by taking my meds, some OTC B-12, vitamins, getting a pack of lovely medium to large dogs, learning about meditation. All of these helped. Plus I learned about stress management. Seizure free for 15 years plus I recently got off of my blood pressure meds after 30 years. This is my story. Everyone is different but I know stress can raise your BP, cholesterol, can cause strokes, seizures, heart attacks, shorten your life. It is just common sense to do what you can within yourself to take control of the things you can.

Anxity sometimes is hard to control. We including myself have struggled with it for years. I take medication for it now Generic for paxil. It was told to me its the anxity on top anxity which seems why it seems to snowball. Once i realized this, with the help of medication i am able to manage it better. All we can do as be the best manager of all side effects from epilepsy from medication to what ever.... Ect
