Memory Issues
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi, though i have had epilepsy for years, I have been on meds for it for the last year. I've been on a few different med combos and currently my simple partial seizures have been under control. Ever since I started taking medicine, no matter which ones, my work capability and memory function have declined. So much that my boss has talked to me about it. She emphasizes with me but i feel like a failure. I don't want to mess with the meds, but are they causing these issue? Thank you all

I've had epilepsy since birth and partial complex seizures at age 5. Ever since being on every med under the sun my short and long term memory is shot and can't remember anything after 24hours. I write everything down right after it's been said to me,date, time and what the activity is and if I can I'll always ask for a card with the same information.

You possibly may be having seizures without realizing and that’s what is affecting your memory.

I've been told that I twitch in my sleep and my eyes move rapidly but I've never had a full one. Its certains I just don't remeber but once somebody starts detailing then I remember

It seems like my memory gets worse with every seizure but maybe it is the medications. I write down every step of a work procedure (I work on computers) in case I forget a step tomorrow. I just had to fill out the paperwork for "reasonable accommodations" to get step by step written directions so the big bosses knew I was looking up stuff for a reason

ACTIVITIES TO HELP WITH YOUR MEMORY; If you have the time you can devote to games& puzzles; crossword puzzles, soduko and any such games.
Then others mention that it is good to jot down and make notes for things you need to remember. I do that as well, but before I go back to read it. For example when I make notes for work. I test myself and see if I can remember what I wrote a day before.
