How Do You Know If You Have A Night Seizure
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have never had a night seizure before. I also haven't regularly had seizures, mine seem to happen in big sessions, last one was 7 Grand Mal / tonic clonic seizures. After a normal seizure I am disorientated, confused and tired. Recently I have been waking up after a really really long sleep and I am confused and disorientated. It only lasts 2 days and then I am OK, well still a bit tired but can at least answer simple questions.

This is obviously not a huge Grand Mal / Tonic Clonic seizure… read more

I started having night seizures after 15+years. I woke up after 15-20 minutes, & was disoriented, headache, but also soiled myself. Not much I could do, so I revisited a neurologist, MRI, diagnosed… read more

I Have To Stay About A Week At The End Of The Month For A EEG And EKG . Are U Allowed To Use The Bathroom Or Is It Bedpan Time?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I hate bedpans. I was so nervous about not being able to use the bathroom. My bowels are just becoming normal again. I have to stay in the hospital a 5 day week. Can someone let me know?

This one was a full range EEG study ordered by my neuro. He was trying to see if they could trigger seizures, spot a focal point, and establish whether I was a candidate for DBS

I Have Been Seizure Free 6 Years. My Neurologist Increased Lamictal Because After Bloodwork, Said It Was Not At Therapeutic Level. Why?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I don't understand why I would need more medication if I am seizure free. It makes me sleepy and depressed. I have been on seizure medication for 50 years and seems to me it causes clinical depression which I have dealt with for many years.

I appreciate the question and the responses. I would add that my neurologist's nurse is a good resource as well. She may be able to help you with why and what you can do.

Anyone Work With A Doctor, And This Feels Weird To Say, Who Makes You Feel Like They Like Medicine Too Much?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

The first time I worked with my current doctor was due to having to switch because of insurance. He was aware I had just had a seizure and the doctor had already raised the dosage, but he still wanted to raise it even more to above the max amount that I kept seeing all over the internet so I refused to do it. That was last summer. I recently had two seizures, the only ones so far this year and since last summer, after working overtime for 2 months and getting stressed and asked if they could… read more

VEEG And No Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Has anyone ever done an in-hospital VEEG(mine is going to be 5 days) and NOT had a seizure?

I’m absolutely terrified of this happening. I usually have 3-4 seizures a month. The NP told me if I don’t have a seizure during the VEEG they’re going to say I have PNES(my epileptologist didn’t say this, the NP did). I’m not sure how they can just jump to that if I don’t have a seizure. I don’t understand this!

Has Anyone Ever Taken A Double Dose Of One Of Their Meds By Mistake Even In Separate Compartments Of Easyour Pill Pack?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I got up not feeling too good. I took my morning meds. I always put my allergy pill and my second pill for seizures in the same pill pack to not take them at the same time as my morning meds. I was stuffy so I took my allergy pill, I made the mistake of taking the seizure pill at the time. I know I should put them in separate compartments. I have done this before. I forget so much lately.

A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was given Gabapentin for pain after surgery and I found that it did nothing but make me fall asleep which is why I may have been given the medication - who knows. Anyone out there has experience with Gabapentin as a pain killer??

Does Anybody Get Angry Or Upset With Their Drs
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I get tired of the drs asking me to tell them how my seizures and epilepsy are when I am awake and I am going through them and all. I finally told the last dr look if I knew what and how to treat my own self I surely would not be paying you 10 thousand dollars for you to do thre job for me now go do your job. The dr was like I don't know what you want from me I told him go look up on computer for meds I am not allergic to and start there. Ty. For listening to me complain

Antibiotics And Seizures
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Do antibiotics increase your chances of having a seizure, even if your epilepsy is well controlled. How soon after starting the antibiotics would you notice increased seizure activity? And how long would this increased activity continue after stopping the antibiotics?
