For Those Of Us That Have Had A Temporal Lobe Labectomy, What Was Life Like After The Surgery??
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know this sounds strange but has anyone that had surgery wake up and 99.9 percent of all seizures gone? If so how did you cope and deal with all the stresses and pressure that the healthy person would have? Did it overwhelm you? I had a rough time adjusting to all these changes. It was all worth it believe me. Or anyone try and picture you wake up seizure free? How fast, it changes everything. Wendal

The other way to describe what I initially went through was all these doors, and windows opened up and one by one I jumped through them. I know how blessed I am everyday and never take it for granted. Wendy

I wasn’t seizure free, but the frequency of my seizures went from severe to mild and moderate seizures.

I had Left Temporal Lobe surgery due to a scar on my brain. I was told that it was 80% chance no more seizures & if any they would be tremors or less then what I had. I went 5 years seizure free & was able to do everything with no problem. On the exact day & everything 5 years later I had my 1st grand mal seizure & they started getting worse. I can't be alone & stress is a big thing. I am on a lot of medications now & very little seizures but was went to my appointment yesterday & will have to go to do different tests to try to figure out if there is something causing it.

You are correct. Upon being released I caught a bus back to my apartment with staples still in my head. My sister phoned to see how I was doing and said Wendy where are you. I was out having a coffee. The whole family freaked and everyone met me at my coffee shop.
For years and years everyone tried to treat me like the Wendy prior to surgery. I think they had more issues dealing with the seizure free Wendy than anything else. It was difficult but well worth it.
I had to learn how to get on an escalator, how to go for a walk on my own. Basic things that most take for granted. That is how sheltered and protected my world was.
I would not change the surgery for anything. There is still Epilepsy on my left side but controlled with Primidone.
The first 6 months after surgery to a year I tried all these new things. Still to this day I feel like I am floating on a cloud. Wendy

I THINK I Kind Of Sort Of Understand What Wendal Is Saying Here, And I Get It, And I Would LOVE To Be In That Position. I THINK What He Means Is That Once You Have The Surgery And MOST If Not All Of Your Seizures Are Gone NOW People Are STILL Expecting You To Have Seizures And Perhaps Treating Like You Still Have Them Creates A WHOLE NEW ISSUE Or Issues. People You Know You Can't Be Expected To All Of A Sudden Believe Your Seizures Are Just Gone Number One And Then Now That They Are Your Life Is Going To Change Dramatically. You Will Now Have Responsibilities You Never Had Before And For SOME This MIGHT Mean You Are Now Able To Drive On Your Own Also A BIG Change. ALOT Of Things That Other People Had To Help You With YOU Are Now Responsible For ALL On Your Own, A Little Scary But At The Same Time VERY LIBERATING. Wendal My Friend I Wish You The BEST Of LUCK And I HOPE You Stay Seizure Free Please Let Us All Know How Things Are Working Out For You Every Now And Then
