Memory Testing
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hey everyone,

I am not sure if i need memory testing or if i am having medication side effects but this has been more recently. I've been on toprimate now since september 2018. Haven't had any issues.

Ive had short term memory issues obviously with seizures but nothing long term

It can can affect each and yes one is phyical and the other mental, but each can also be both. For instance scitzophrenia is both a physical and a mental illness, as is Bi-Polar, major depressive disorder. Basically one has to do with the chemistry in the brain, the other has to do with out side of the body. It's more complex than that, but that is it on an easy to understand simple basis.

I started journaling a few years ago as well. I also scrapbook. So I can have sources to look back on my life. It's the same for me I can remember one thing and forget another. There's not a pattern to my memory issues.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member correct but seizures can affect people psychologically as well. For instance some times after a run of seizures i get depressed or it causes insomnia for me because i have frontal lobe epilepsy and it wears on me mentally etc

I understand and know how scary it can be. I've had short term memory loss since my seizures started years ago. I have no idea why some things are wiped out completely, while other memories are as clear as day. I think we have to accept a loss of control here (which is often the biggest challenge). If there are any memories crucial, or simply dear to my heart, I journal them. Best wishes!

I will be fine as long as I have all of my family and friends. Each day is another day to enjoy the fresh air and the joy of hearing the bird sing and just seeing and hearing nature. Have a good day. Chat with you later. Take care. GOD BLESS!
