A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I've had seizures since I was five but I had brain surgery in 2017 could I still be epileptic? My family says I am seizure free but I don't know if I should believe them due to a friend doing all the surgeries I've done and she still has seizure problems

You will still have Epilepsy. They surgery will help reduce your seizures, have better seizure control with meds and possibly make you seizure free. It doesn’t mean that your Epilepsy is gone. Keep in mind that even though your seizure free for days, months, years, they can come back .

I had my brain in 1998 . I still have seizures, but my seizure frequency was reduced from severe to mild and moderate seizures. Yes, I still need to take meds and have Epilepsy.

I'm no neuro (obviously), but just because you're 'seizure free' for two years doesn't necessarily mean that you don't have epilepsy. Have you had a eeg in the last two years? If not, personally, I would suggest you having one done to check your patterns.

It works for some people and nit others just like different medication. I pray that it did for you.

I had the surgery also, but I rarely have grand malls. I still have small night time seizures.

I don't know about seizure free. Your doctor should know. I do know all seizures aren't the same, so all patients shouldn't be the same!
