New Medication? Lamotrigine.
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi friends, I recently changed medications (as advised my neurologist) from keppra- which i was having terrible mood swings, depression and anxiety. To this medication called “lamotrigine” which is supposed to be great for my mental health. has anyone been on this medication and if so did you see a diffrence in your (mental) health or anything i should be Cautious of?

Lamotrigine is the only medication I take, at present, with my VNS. While I still have seizures, I can tell the difference from when I started taking the medicine as opposed to when I was not.

Medicine works differently for different people though. I've read the previous comments and I can agree with some of the side effects. Sometimes, I get seriously dizzy and have to lay down for a bit. I also have trouble trying to find words but if those are the least, I'd much rather be dizzy and stumbling over words than blacking out.

I’ve been on combination of [[treatment:levetiracetam:588694b66b4dcc553fd2a145]] and lamotrigine and the only side effect that I have experienced is an inability to handled stress as well as I use too, this has only caused two abscent seizures when I had news about the eminent death of my father. I’ve experienced no other effects besides having trouble with finding the correct word I want to use but still have the ability to replace it with something which has the same meaning even if it takes more words and isn’t as effective. Just make sure that as many people that you feel safe with know that you are changing meds and to tell you if they notice any changes in your behaviour. Hoping this is helpful and you find some improvement in your seizures and no side effects.

You should contact your doctor for maybe a differnt MEd. I was on that for a while and it caused me to have more seizures. I had 27 in oneday well I was on keptra. Check with your doctor and see what he suggests

I was told it would be better for my memory problem but neither I nor my family noticed any difference ☹️

I take lamotrigine and its good for me, the only side effect I had was dizziness so it was just a matter of trying to find a suitable dosage to take so there won't be side effects which is pretty much the same with most medications.
I take 4 medications and the lamotrigine goes well with the other medication I take.
I used to take keppra but it didn't work for me and I didn't have any side effects from it either.
