Hi there,
I was wondering if any adults have experience using the ketogenic diet, apparently it’s not just for children any more. I’ve tried the Atkins diet twice, lasted a month on it at the most (ended up losing weight👍🏻) but it was so boring and bland. This is the only option I have since extensive testing hasn’t revealed a focus/foci for my seizures. Any advice, resourcea would be much appreciated🙂
Keto and Vns for 14 months. Doc just reduced one of my pills and will slowly wean me off, one at a time, as long I'm ok.
My neurology team has a nutritionist on staff. They check my blood/urine every visit to make sure I'm not vitamin deficiencient. Weight loss may occur..We discuss menu, ideas, online recipe sites, Etc.

I never heard of it. But I have tried a walking diet which you watch your carb intake. But you can still eat what you want but just less portions if you eat a lot which I don't. You also drink a lot of water & drink water with 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar in the morning & it helps. I got a lot more energy & lost about 10 pounds or more.
i have a keto diet. its a high fat, low carb diet. it is the next step after the MAD diet (modified Atkins diet). on the strict keto you fast for a day or so. and only gets the good fats and oils. you have to weigh everything and on the strict diet there are no 'cheat day'. the good thing is your seizure med will go down and/or the seizures will stop or lesson.
I have found I do much better by eating a high fat diet. I try to eat a lot of raw cashews, pecans.
I haven't done keto but I upped my protein, iron and b12 intake and I found this helped alot especially with my energy levels. Before this I was pescetarian for 8yrs but then found I was having to eat salmon and mackerel about 4/5 days a week after finding out about my epilepsy so did some research and my gp advised me not to go on keto because I would lose weight so instead I just upped my protein which naturally reduced the carbs slightly because of quantity. Hope this is of some use x
