Hi I will be starting a medication switch over soon - adding Keppra to my Sodium Valporate/Lamotrigine combination and then will be weaned off sod val in order to prepare me for pregnancy as sodium valporate is harmful to a baby in pregnancy.
I’m wondering if anyone here has been through this/similar and what were your experiences?
I had my first grand mal at 13, and around 20 other grand mals up until I was 15. EEG normal. Since then I have been seizure free for a whole 17 years! So I’m… read more
Also don’t let them put you on generic.
I've had nothing but great experiences with Keppra! I know there are a lot of horror stories out there, but there are good stories too. It has been one of the best medications for me. It kept me seizure free for about 5 years! Then they started to come back and we tried adding other meds and eventually VNS implant. Now I take Keppra XR, Zonegran, and have the VNS. So far with meds, I have tried Topamax, Keppra, Lamictal, Trileptal, and Vimpat. Out of all the meds that I have been on, Keppra has caused the least amount of side effects. I can name at least one problem with all the other meds, Keppra hasn't caused me any though!
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member i am a health nut. my mom and i take a lot of vitamins and diets and read a lot of stuff.
as for the vitamins... the milk thistle doesn't help me with the seizures, its just calms me down. i dont think you can have this because of the pregnancy thing but i take cbd oil. it stops the seizures cold. i used to have seizures everyday before the oil. after i have 1 kinda seizure a month or 2 month.
i take keppra and phenobarb. the side effects of keppra is (for me) dizziness, tiredness, and keppra rage (mood swings). i take vitamin MILK THISTLE for the mood swings. every meds has side effects. keppra attacks the liver and milk thistle boost the liver. i also take TURMERIC/CURCUMIN to boost hidden virus and bad bacteria.
the thing is every person is different. you may have the tiredness or dizziness. some people has no symptoms.
