Do Finger And Thumb Muscles Tighten During A Focal Seizure?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I usually have grand mal seizures, I’ve had 5 in the last 6 weeks , 4 were in the same day which was 5 weeks ago. Before that, my last one was 2015.

What I’m going to say has happened quite a few times before, two of those times 1-2 days later I had the grand mals this month that I mentioned above. But other times this has happened and nothing days later. I can imagine that it’s possible for you fingers tightening while you seizure. There are many people where a part of their body stiffens. Usually arms and legs . Why not the fingers.

I have complex focal aware, diagnosed about 2 years ago. Originally, my episodes were basically like a bad stroke, then progressed to seeming very drunk or high. In the past 6 months, my husband says my hands "claw" to the pint he has to massage them for me to be able to release the tension. He also told me I've started chewing my mouth and lips, and minor shaking. I've read recently that this all could indicate a progression towards grand mal, but I don't know. Definitely tell you dr, and I'm going to at next month's appt.
All the best to you!
