4 Year Old Having Problems
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi all, I'm here for some advice, my 4 year old daughter has not yet been diagnosed with epilepsy she just started having a few strange episodes. She becomes really vacant and won't respond , she just stares at us. She started to complain of a head ache and threw up. She then became unresponsive and dribbling terribly , she went limp and closed her eyes . But she had a strong grip on my husband finger the whole time . The doctors mentioned absence seizures at first when she just started having… read more

First of all , everything you explained about her, are symptoms of Epilepsy.

You need to get her to a Neurologist or Epileptologist. If she doesn’t get diagnosed and treated , it could get worse.

Make sure she gets tested with the EEG, so they have an idea of what type of Epilepsy she has. Then they will have an idea of what type of meds to start her on.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member you are right and wrong about this epilepsy thing.
the right part is we dont know what causes the kids to have seizure. and the kid need a nero dr.
the wrong part is we can narrow down the to few opitons.
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member i do not know the kid but listening to the symptoms, she has what i have. the kid has phases of seizures. it is probably partials (focals) because of the stared look, like what i do. and getting limp and closing her eyes is a grand mal is the complex (onset impaired awareness) part, like me. i hope its not complex partial, like i have, but if you have it, i got some tricks to get out of the seizures.

Ok, I think you have focal (formally known as partial) seizures. I have complex partial by food (a seizure caused by food). I also have phases of seizures. I think you have phases of seizures.
When I have a seizure I first get a space out or the thinker seizure where I stare at the wall. Next is the lop thing. Next is the ma phase where I am not myself and I get mom or ma a lot. Last is the blackout seizure. It is known as a grand mall seizure. I think you have the spaceout, ma, and the grand mals. I do not know that kid but I noticed what you describe is what I have. I also was 5 years old when I was diagnosed. All that I can give to you and the kid is trust your gut and tell that kid (and you) to keep a seizure journal. Even if the kid 'feels funny' write it down. If you have a smartphone or tablet, it is a lot easier. Just get a note pad and write it down there. The drs are your best friend and worst enemy. Drs can Rx the right or wrong meds depending on how much that know about the case.

I find I am tired for days after and a little foggy. I was in kindergarten when I was diagnosed. I have an aunt that also had seizures as a child but grew out of them.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member like i said sometimes it takes hours, days, weeks, months, or even years for another seizure to happen.
