Can Anyone Give Me Insight About To Balance Working Full Time?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am having a hard time coping with the episodes, stress, medication and especially fatigue while trying to work at the same time. At my job, I’m on call 24/7 and never seem to get a break. I have been trying for a couple of years, but i feel like I’m fading. Any advice? Thank you so much.

You need a set schedule. Being on call is very dangerous for someone with epilepsy. I’ve gotten a seizure because I wasn’t keeping a set sleeping schedule. Finding jobs that fit our needs medically while also financially is sooo hard though; I agree.

on call 24/7 is a bad thing even if people are not epileptic. if you can, tell your boss or whatever that you cant call at certain times of the day. this lack of sleep thing will throw off everything. and on top of that, the seizures... its not good. i am conflicted because so many of us cant find a job or work part-time or a volunteer job. but you cant get on call 24/7.

Don't do it! Get another job. I was working 4 days awake around 10-12 hours per day (on a supposed 9 hour day) - very stressful job (that didn't used to be stressful back before seizureland) and too little time to sleep and enjoy my life. It's not worth it. Don't do it. Get a different job. Go out on FMLA/short term disability (that's what I'm doing now) and spend the time resting and looking for a job that meets your needs. Give it to yourself as a birthday present. (That's also what I'm doing! 62 tomorrow!!)
