A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi all. To those using Tegretol. Did your memory worsen after you started to use it? I am on 200mg am and 400mg pm. Thanks.

Hi Terry . If you have been a Electrician for a long time , then with you understanding the procedures can mean that it in your long term memory.

I’ve had epilepsy all my life and I have memories all the way back whenI was 3 years old. .

There are many things that has to do with our memory. Things like going in a room and fogetting what we were going to do or get. Then there is the stuggle find the right words we want to speak when talking. Then there is the confusion that we go through after a siesure, like knowing where we’re at , remembering the people around us, and etc.

Terry... Have you noticed a difference with your long term and short term memory?

I mean Im missing a full hippocampus.. Yet I can still embalm anything with veins! Or build/repair computer hardware and software. These are skills I learned while on tegratol years before surgery..
Right now I cant tell you what I was doing 30mins ago, but I can tell you what I was wearing 30 years ago
Developing new skills is a challenge

In my opinion, it doesn’t matter what medication your taking . They all mess with our memory functions.

Yes that's me. I can do something and a minute or two later ask myself ? Did I do that.

I can't remember either. Told it's the seizures more than it is the meds as well. Tegretol doesn't help I have problems remembering discussions from yesterday. I repeat conversations with people. Forgetting that last time I saw them, I brought the subject up, and we discussed it (making me seem (obsessed with topic).
