Allergies To Medications
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone else have any allergies to Epileptic medication? I'm allergic to pretty much all but a couple of them. I just want to see if I'm alone & if others are what were your side effects showing you were allergic?

I’m alergic to Epilum - it caused my seizures to multiply and was taking loads of seizures a day and it was years ago and can’t remember what I was switched to but think it was Tegretol which worked well until I was in my teens but was switched to Epanutin but have been on Phenobarbital since day one and still am with Keppra now. Been seizure free for many years thank God!

I'm allergic to Trileptal. I had been on it for almost two weeks and was working up the dose, then one morning woke up with a rash all over my thighs, then it spread to my belly. I took benadryl, rash didn't go away and continued to spread all over my whole body. It was like tiny little red circles and dots, then they all started to connect in to big red blotches and began itching. Had to go to the ER. Fortunately it didn't get worse, just had to get a steroid shot and some strong prescription antihistamines.

I'm allergic to a lot of them. I've had good luck with [[treatment:Lamictal:5508b7fb6bcd61548000025f]]. Just make sure you test your blood so they don't give you too much.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member: You're not missing much. Dilantin wrecks your mouth and can affect the fetus. Depakote causes obesity and can affect the fetal brain.
