I haven't been on Trileptal, but you need to be careful of developing low sodium. I was on Tegretol for over 20 years and was taken off b/c of it. Get blood work to make sure. I know they both cause low sodium so Trileptal was NOT an option for me. Good Luck
About 4 years or so ago I was getting ready to leave for work & began getting dizzy, double vision & started crying for no reason at all. I didn't know what was going on. I was taking 4 300mg of Trileptal a day, the generic & 2 500mg of the generic of the Depakote. I was seeing my family doctor for my seizures cause I didn't have any insurance at the time & had barely started a job & had started a job & couldn't afford to keep jumping around till I found a neurologist that I liked. My family doctor believed it was my Trileptal causing all these problems & so he reduced my morning pill to just 1 300mg Trileptal & I had not had any problems since. Well, last July I believe I had my first seizure probably in 2 years or so & I finally made the effort to find an adult neurologist like my pediatric neurologist wanted me to a few years ago. So I found a neurologist right away & last year between July & December I had maybe 5 seizures or so & since I kept having those seizures my neurologist increased my Trileptal back to 4 a day, the 2 in the morning & 2 at night. I made him aware of what happened to me a few years ago & how my family doctor thought the problem might have been the Trileptal but my current neurologist said since I kept having seizures the Trileptal needed to be increased. Since I've been back at taking 4 a day I haven't had the episode of crying for no reason but can't say for sure about the blurry or double vision. I've had a few seizures this year, like 2 about a month ago or so & my neurologist increased my Depakote 500mg by 1 more pill, a dosage I've never been on. Anyways, that's my experience with possibly the Trileptal. Your friend in Texas, Becky
I have been on trileptal since July. Currently on the highest dose. As I went up in MG it would make me really drowsy but within a week I would get used to it and be okay. I find if I take it to close to bed time it's harder to wake up in the morning, so I take my bedtime dose 2-3 hours before.
The only side effect I had was weight gain. I got headaches but I was migraine prone before being on meds , so that doesn't really count. I loved it. Unfortunately my body got too used to it so it no longer works.
