A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

So I’ve recent attended a support group-type thing at the hospital I’m due to have my op at and people who are thinking about having the op and people who have had the op attend so questions can be asked about anything. I think it’s just caused MORE worry for me! Just wanted to know what other problems people have had during and after surgery. Things like one guy mentioned to me that chewing has become difficult for him and another issue that was raised was sight...I had a rough idea that sight… read more

So your having a part of the hippocampus removed?

Thats the surgery I was offered, has anyone mentioned about the loss of memory and the fact that what you loose may be permanently lost?

That was one of the factors of me not having it done, the other factor being that I had another section of the brain causing seizures which they couldnt touch.

So I had risks of permanent memory loss and still having seizures xx

I should have noted what op I’m having... it’s all on my left side and I’m going to have an anterior temporal lobectomy in order to have an amygdalohippocampectomy to get the bit in the centre of my brain causing the seizures out. So it’s very much 2 ops in 1.

i had a left hemispherectomy in 2001. i used to have phases of seizures every hour. now its an aura every day or every other day. my side effects are my right is less than the left. i can see out of my right eye but my right vision is bad. my right hand cant do much. one final thing is my speech is slower and i cant think of what i am saying.
there is a lot of advances after my surgery. and you may or may not have complex partials.
