How Do You Know If Your Having Episodes/ Seizures In Your Sleep
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I’ve begun to notice when I wake up some mornings that I’m very exhausted and so tiredeven tho I’ve had a long nights sleep, my muscles are randomly hurting and I sometimes wake up with small bruises on my thighs..!?

As @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member mentions bitten tongue or inside cheek plus saliva on face, broken nails, headaches, banged head, falling from bed, sore muscles, small injuries to limbs, and memory problems have all happened to me. What you describe @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member could very easily be the result of seizures in your sleep. If you have back to back tonic-clonic or grand mal seizures do not expect your mind to be clear and sharp. Plus, you may have a pet like my dog, about 30 years back, in an unusual spot, upon arising. We're all different, so you may have something happen with a slightly alternate description.
May God be with you.😊

Go and tell your doctor. Suggest having a sleep study done to confirm whether you are suffering from sleep apnea. You may need a CPAP machine. I did this and along with my meds I haven’t had a nocturnal grand mal in ages. the symptoms mentioned by the other respondents are all possible from nocturnal seizures. Hope you can get this sort out quickly good luck.

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, it is not uncommon to have more than one type of seizure for many of us. You may need a specialist in epilepsy, to uncover the range of seizures. May God be with you 😊

I never knew I had seizures in my sleep until I had one of my 10 day, 24 hour live EEG testing. Months later I realized that I woke up really sore in the morning, very tired and had bit my inner cheek or tongue, like what sometimes happens during my other seizures. It started making sense why I would wake up like that every once in a while. Now, when I do wake up like that, I just assume I had one and let my neurologist know. Then they can check my NeuroPace device’s activity and see when it happened.
