Having read some stories from those who suffer from epilepsy in rural areas - say north america and canada - how do you manage for doctors and medication when the weather is bad and you have to drive a long way to the nearest town?
I live in North Bay Ontario Pharmacys are not a problem we have lots and my nerologist is Dr. Foell in Huntsville which is about an hour away. He is one of the top neurologists in Canada
My neurologist is 12 hours away...telehealth helps in the winter. I need to make sure I have a good supply of meds b/c it takes 2-3 days to order in the meds to the pharmacy. No regular doctors, they switch off every couple of weeks so I always need to tell my history to the doctor I can get the closest appointment with.
My neurologist is only about 10 minutes away but I only get to see him once a year because he is so busy. As for doctors I never get to see my usual doctor who knows my case history because he is so busy. Sometimes I can't get an appointment to see a doctor at all.
I have to go to London to see Specialist, which is on average 1 and half to 2 hours away by car. My husband or brother take me to appointments or for emergencies. My GP practise is only 2 minutes drive away, but they don't really like to mess around with the epilepsy drugs. Can be somewhat frustrating, especially if you don't have an appointment with a specialist for some time =( Pharmacy only 2 minutes away also.
The pharmacy 1/2 an hour. Specialist 1and 1/2 hours. Emergency room 45 minutes.. Our driveway 20 degree incline. I have to hire snow plow guy to do it. Every time it snows. We have 4 x4 too, but still scary up here. No guard rails on windy roads in the curvy canyons.
