Anyone Else Write Poems Regarding Epilepsy?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone else write poems about having seizures? I often use them when I speak to a group about epilepsy as a great icebreaker. Sometimes people find talking about their epilepsy on front of large groups rather daunting and can often trigger a seizure - that used to happen to me even in front of small groups but once I brought humour into my presentations it totally changed my mindset and put people at ease. You often forget that those listening to you know little or nothing about… read more

When you see me in public you always pass me by.
Never do you take the time to say the two letters HI.
Yes I have an illness yes that may be.
But the same God that made me also made thee.
So that makes me wonder. What kind of creature did God make thee ?
This is the words that came when I treated like I'm contagious .
Have a seizure free day and keeping writing. It's a good way to ease your stress.

Hi @A MyEpilepsyTeam Member, thanks very much. I found it so confusing for a time after seizures and tried to explain it to people what it felt like. I felt by explaining through poetry was the easiest and I prefer to use humor to break the ice and show people i’m not ashamed of having epilepsy.
Might post others in the future.
Thanks, Talk2u soon,

I may not always write a comedic poem but I do believe in humor to help people feel more at ease when talking and learning about epilepsy. I want people to understand me, not pity me. Epilepsy has enough ugliness strapped to it's back. When I can look at it and laugh at the craziness of it all I actually feel more normal. I love it when people say that they know that when someone has a seizure to stick something in their mouth so they don't swallow their tongue. I am so lucky because mine keeps growing back even when I have a seizure all alone.
