Brivaracetam
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am already on 450mg of lamotrigne and 400mg of Epilim and 15mg of Nitrazepam daily. I have a range of seizures many times a month. It seems to be catamenial. It is refractory. So my doctor is suggesting to add on brivaracetam. I am already tired, irritable and have stomach problems. Has anyone else had this problem?Should I add on brivaracatam I am concerned.

It has helped me a lot in the beginning. But I think my body got used to it and I am back to having seizures like I used to.

Yes it is catamenial. Completely hormonal. Just before my period and when I ovulate. It still amazes me that there doesn't seem to be much they can do about it. Although, forgive me if I am over paranoid but perhaps the men in power haven't seemed to focus on researching and funding enough into it! I go to queen square as well. I don't think my friend switched from Keppra on to it. The fact that you cannot get benefits is bloody disgusting... even though I am on them it has been a complete nightmare trying to keep on them. I have had more than a few battles. x

Trillian - no I have not tried it yet. I have told my neurologist to defer it for now. As I said before I am wary of trying out yet another drug as it makes me so sick. I am also a little put off by it because I have a friend who had awful effects from it. However, I know all drugs have such different effects on all individuals. The insane thing is that where it is not available in the part of London that I live in. Basically if you live in the south you can get it but cannot in the north. All about funding!

P.s. I am happily settled and not trying to pick anyone up!!! You just seem on a similar wave length which i haven’t really had any experience of, with people in our situation. Don’t feel obliged. 🤪
