My Job
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I love helping people of all sorts. Its been my dream since I was little to become a CNA. I'm working 8 hour shifts as a cashier that started last week and I had to call in today because I was having little seizures that I KNOW turn into bigger ones and I really don't want to leave work again because I don't want them to see it. They've seen the small ones but I don't want them to treat me differently... I keep a smile on my face there because I want them to know I'm alright. So I guess my… read more

I'm a nurse. First, I cut out night shifts. Then, I transferred to a less stressful unit. (I worked on a cardiac unit.) Eventually, I had to move out of the hospital completely. My body just couldn't take the long hours. My seizures were completely uncontrolled. Luckily, I never had one at work. Once I moved to outpatient (ambulatory) nursing, things got much better. I miss my hospital days and I'm always tempted to go back, but I know my body can't handle the stress and the long hours. You can be an awesome CNA (or nurse) without working crazy hours. My job still gets stressful, but it's nothing compared to the inpatient world! Good luck! Hang in there... go after your dream! :-)

Keep a good daily routine; take care of my diet, i.e. know what my body needs, Breakfast is vital,
Get to know your body, I call it, "Listen to your body". If your seizures are not too frequent, Ask yourself, what may have caused the seizure or whar has made you feel bad , etc. ... and with time you will find the triggers of your seizures.

there are agency s that hire CNA's and send them out to help the people in their homes this may be a good option for you just remember that if your on the job and begin to fill funny you may need to tell the patient to call for help so at least wear a necklace that says you have epilepsy Don't let fear control your life or your Epilepsy.

Maybe cut down on your hours or look for a less stressful work. Being a cashier is very hard work. I work part time as a cashier in a busy department store/supermarket......it's very stressful.
