DNA Test For Best Meds
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

A friend of mine from a different forum I use occasionally told me last night about neurologists being able to use DNA test to see which epileptic would work best for you, and have the least amount of side-effects. I was very intrigued by the idea, especially with my history of meds that don't work, have horrific side-effects, or makes my seizures worse. Has anyone ever done this, or known anyone that has?

the problem with testing for epilepsy meds is everyone is difference. they are just guessing base on the the meds that you didn't get, the meds that you worsen when you had it, and what works for now. i am on keppra 500 and phenobarbital 100. if i do up or down on ether one. i start having seizures.

dna testing for meds is, to me, a scam. everyone is different and every meds is different. dna testing dosent find a cure, they find the problem. and the test maybe a false positive. for example, i have seizures cause by food. there is no cure for this. med help but i still have seizures every night. and i got a lot of meds that supposed to help but actually hurt me. 2 meds actually made me seize more.

I am uncontrolled as well. I am wondering if it is worth even taking the medication since it is not controling them.
