Frontal Lobectomy
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am meant to have left frontal lobectomy brain surgery at Westmead Hospital. My Neurologist won't say anything to me about Rehabilitation afterwards or even beforehand. As it's a very complicated circumstance. Anyway, I am now living in a Womens Refuge and the staff are trying to find me a permanent place near Westmead as the Neuro Surgeon won't operate until I have a permanent place to live. So I will be living on my own and Medical staff haven't helped at all accept with NDIS. But when I… read more

I am going crazy lol NDIS do have are useless my husband works for them. They turned down my application because with the depression I wasn't seeing a psychologist at that time and they couldn't establish that it was permanent and the epilepsy also was considered non permanent because it was somewhat controlled with medications ,they know I still have seizures. GO FIGURE I didn't appeal though I think I would have met the criteria. They will Rv later I know people who haven't been Rv for 3yrs and haven't heard that it will happen at this stage. These people I don't know how they got it in the first place. They a so independent and have been forever

Hi I am from Canberra I would recommend you ring epilepsy Australia they should be able to refer you to someone. The drs most likely the registra tell you all the information about complications before you sign consent they are legally responsible. Maybe you or staff can notify gov housing to be able to give you priority housing. The gov will need letters etc from anyone who is willing , you will need to have letter from gp. Maybe SW. Write your own letter and emphasise the importance of the prioritise because of having the surgery and the surgery will only be done if you are out of refuge. Drs will need to emphasise that as well

. NDIS should organise a support worker to visit and check how you are. The gov have community nurses to visit and make sure medications have been taken. They can do dressings as well . If you don't mind me asking do you have mental health issues? You should be able under the gov to have a support worker and psychiatrist. I have and they organise everything , I think your Gp can refer you to them. I don't know where you are and if in a small town there maybe insufficient funds.

Use everything you can that why they are there. They need people just to get good funding so don't feel that you shouldn't keep asking for the help. Ask the drs about issues with frontal lobe damage IF! it happens. Frontal lobe damage can affect different things. It is the area that affects personality such as not being aware of consequences, impulsiveness, compulsiveness, rage etc.

I'm sorry I have mentioned that but I think you need to know and you can have an explanation if people are a bit over the top with their comments Then again you have to have the surgery and DONT LET IT STOP YOU!!! neurosurgeons are amazing with brain operations these days.

I say all this as I am a neurosurgical nurse I also had a tennis ball size brain tumour, had 10hr of surgery which is a marathon for them and also have epilepsy. I see these issues all the time also my husband has frontal damage from a tumour.

As I have said get all the help you can and you will get all the support you need. Go girl you will be ok😍 I know this is very long winded and probably a very , very overwhelming but I want all the information that I feel I know will help as I have been there as well as others on this site.

I forgot after surgery they have occupational therapists. They organise equipment loans
