A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does it work really well? Or you still get frequent seizure at times? Or does it just depend?

I have had it for 4 yrs It really depends... On what level it is on and the severity of the seizures I have definitely have more less intense seizures because even when I don't know it's coming the VNS is always on to catch it if it can... sometimes I can also feel when I need to increase it. I take medication still as well... The issue with me is when I don't get an Aura so even with the implant and Medicine I'm still having intense seizures. And in My sleep.

It acts kind of like a second medication. We all r trying to achieve a seizure free life. But sometimes we cant achieve that thru single or evan duel meds.VNS is another option, to eithier try to eliminate them all together or atleast lessen the intensity. I am looking into it, it seems right for me. I have complex seizures either of the simple variety which u dont lose awareness, partial which causes u to lose awareness. I am trying to lose partials. Which will leson the intensity. I wont stop taking my 1 med lamortogne, so it acts like a secondary. Due to the fact that another med with mine doesnt change, this way im not putting more chemicals to my body. This is how i hear how it works, but i cant talk from experience, i can only go on what others have told me. But i like and forward to it by the new year if i can only get the insurance to companys to cooperate.

With a VNS it can be modified by a doctor on how strong and/or how often the electric impulses are happening. I have had mine for almost 3 years now and I have gone periods of 5-7 months without seizures; but I also take medication. The first year I drastically dropped in the number I had per year. I use to have around 100 absent seizures per year and first year after the VNS I had only 15. BUT remember it started to be effective at the started frequency... for me. A friends sister of mine has it much higher than mine because she use to have multiple grand mals a day since she was born. I recommend to do research on it. I gave you my skype and email right? If you have any other questions or whatever, hit me up. I would love to talk to you.

It works well, depending on the way you use it. You have to get the magnet right over the device in your chest. I like having it. But I still have many medications to take.

AspireSR actually has 3 times it comes on all others 2. Automatic for when its set to go off. Whenever your heart rate goes up and manual. I decided on this one because it is recommended for people like me who have refractory seizures(seizure that are never fully controle by any medication).
