Anyone here have Ativan at home to take after you have had more than 1 seizure in a day to help stop them? Hubby has complx partials.. wondering your experience do they stop the seizures?
This is my personal story: I didn't take Ativan for 7 years after my car accident. (Which was 10 years ago) It wasn't offered. After a status seizure 2,5 years ago, the doctor prescribed it to be used after a partial. Last summer, I was still sleeping a lot more than usual. Afternoon naps 2-3 hours long. My neurologist said I just need to recognize this is life. Gut feeling told me there was more. Referred myself to a new neurologist. They figured out the menial .5 dosage of Ativan was the problem. The withdrawal symptoms were brutal. Two weeks of hell. My new neurologist explained that once I had started taking Ativan, it's a round and round. Your body missss it, so has another seizure. So we take more. Taking it that long wasn't something he agreed on.
My life has changed. I'm not as exhausted. Think clearer. More positive. My new neurologist believes people should be checked not only physically, but mentally. I saw a psychiatrist. He agreed Advil wasn't a great med for long term.
Hope this helps. I know some people do ok with Ativan. Also, a lot with CBD oil. Just personal preference. I find staying hydrated, lots of sleep, low stress are a few things that help. Best
Wishes to you
I doubt any epilepsy doc knows what works. It's a crap shoot and I've been on the pharmaceutical merry go round for last 4 years and NOTHING works but dope to stop or prevent simple seizures.
I don't take Ativan, but I do use Lorazepam for a recovery med. it's basically the same thing.. most of the time they stop mine. But there have been a few times, where it didn't seem to work. It was almost like I didn't even take it.
Yes Ativan stops mine
We do the same. One Ativan when we see symptoms. Give second Ativan if symptoms persist or if she has generalized seizure.
