I've taken both meds and I don't believe zonegran has less side effects. Topomax didn't control my seizures whatsoever. I took zonegran for around 5years. It was the first med to control my seizures although I grew a huge tolerance and it stopped working. Side effects were horrid- depression, suicidal thoughts, anxiety, panic attacks, hallucinations, insomnia, appetite loss, etc. the list goes on and on. The only major side effect I had on topomax was major weight loss.... which also isn't good but for the few months I was on it, I didn't have as many side effects as on zonegran. In the end, you are different than me. On one hand, I want to say it's "worth a try." On the other hand, I wouldn't recommend it- especially if you have had history of any mood/mental disorder. Zonegran can both cause it and exacerbate mental illness. But this is just my experience on it- good luck, give it a shot, you never know. It may work better for you than me. Good luck💜💜💜
No problem! Good luck! It's unfortunate, but I guess we have to try every thing out to see what "fits" us individually
Thank you so much!!! Doctor was going to talk with hospital pharmacist about trying either Zonegran or trokendi and which had fewer side effects to treat nocturnal complex partial seizures. I really appreciate all the info. Thanks again so much!
