A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi guys,

Looking for guidance on this.

Last fit was 5th March 2014. Consultant told me on Feb 23 2017. I could apply for my licensee. Submitted application to DVLA 28th Feb. I'm still waiting for them to make a decision and return my license.

Called DVLA yesterday to be told they are still waiting on the return of medical form to be returned to them from the consultant at the John Radcliffe in Oxford. I'm aware that the JR has a huge staff shortage but DVLA wrote to the JR on 1st March… read more

Hi Rebecca I don't know the answer but the Epilepsy Society UK would be able to help with this perhaps regarding carrying your letter with you? Maybe give them a ring on their phone no. you can ring on their website. They're always good with their up to date knowledge. They can advise you what to do to get ahead. I'm sorry your hospital is taking its time but then I think that's how they all are whenever you're waiting for something. That's sooo super though that you haven't had a seizure for so long! Take care, Gill :)

My last license was issued in 2012 and is reviewed in 2022.
The last review was a DVLA medical report by my GP.
DVLA can drag their feet however once you’ve got it back reviews are ticks in boxes affairs unless you suffer sleep seizures in between or the like.
I’ve been seizure free 20 years now and hope I don’t have to surrender my licence again.....it would save me a fortune in tax/insurance with three vehicles though !
Hope you aren’t waiting too much longer.

it took almost 9 months to get my licence back... red tape takes a while and it was a medical note from my GP that took a while you should get it, however mine is up for review in a year - its valid for 5 years after last episode. not sure if that applies to everyone, in my situation it does ..

Hi Rebecca. It took up to 9 months for me to get my license back - best feeling I had since diagnosis and being seizure free. it will come. there is a process they have to follow and although it seems it is taking a lifetime, you should get it back soon.

its brilliant that you have been seizure free for 3 years, that's really positive and hopeful. take care :o)
