Anyone Had Any Problems With 'accidents' During Seizures?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

During my last trip into hospital, I was asked to wear a diaper, because during my seizure I'd pooped my pants. I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems with having accidents during seizures, and if so, is it possible to stop them, because this honestly doesn't usually happen to me, normally I wake up from seizures clean and dry. I'm told I had another minor seizure during the night, which I don't remember, because I woke up with a dirty diaper (my first since I was two years old)… read more

Yes I sometimes I would 'wet the bed' and feel like a child before I got diagnosed we didn't know why I was doing it so I hid it from my parents and washed my sheets and remake them myself before they noticed because I felt embarrassed and then when I got diagnosed they asked the question. And my parents said no and when we got home I told them

That has happened to me four times within a 5 week period since I became an epileptic 22 years ago. I had heard about it But it had never happened to me. I was so embarrassed and humiliated I could hardly even say the words to tell my neurologist. I had to look down and then turn my eyes away. For the longest time afterwards I slept with a towel under my sheets so if it were to happen again at least my mattress would be okay.

I've never suffered seizures in my sleep. I have wet my pants a couple of times during my a complex partial seizure. One time I was at home, and another time it happened on the weekend while I was at work. I was wearing black pants, so I was able to wash my underwear and my pants crotch area in the bathroom.

No, there is no way to stop having accidents when you experience a seizure. It may be abnormal for you to have them at your age but you cannot stop them. Unfortunately.
