My neurologist, who worked on the epilepsy Lyrica trials, decided to use me as a guinea pig in 2008, to test this drug. From the beginning, I've had all the less common side effects of this medication. I've suffered joint pain, blurred vision, insomnia, and worst of all tightening of the throat. I've been seizure free for almost 25 years, I had a right temporal lobectomy in 1993. I've suffered a couple of seizures during my pregnancy in 1995. I wasn't taking any medication during this time. My neurologist keeps me on Lyrica as a preventive measure. I just wish he hadn't switched me to this medication, which I don't like.
I have been on Lyrica (Pregabalin) for nerve damage/spasms due to my paralysis but it works in conjunction with all the other anticonvulsants I also take - Keppra and Phenobaritone and I used to be on Epanutin but it became toxic in my blood and almost killed me and was suddenly switched to the Keppra which, thank goodness, has also kept me seizure free. I am now over 17 years seizure free and thank God every day of how lucky I am. Never loose hope as if I can be brought under control anyone can. Work very closely with your Neurologist as they do incredible things.
Lyrica is mostly used for diabetic nerve pain, and fibromyalga.
