Epilim OR Sodium Valporate Anybody Know What The Issue Is ??
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anybody happen to know what the issue with this drug is ? I caught a story tailend on the news a couple of evenings ago and parents are blaming the drug for their child's disability. I know it's an old drug I knew somebody that used to take it over 20 years ago then it was known as Epilim. Then I've taken it myself possibly about 10 years ago and it was known as Sodium Valporate, even though it's the same drug.

When I got pregnant, both times, the doc just changed my meds. I was put back on the others within a couple moths after they were born! All was fine!

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member thanks for that article Paul that's most likely what it is. I'm not commenting on that drug. I currently take a drug and my GP has warned me there would be complications in pregnancy so having kids has been ruled out. Tbh I don't think I'd be safe with a newborn.

I saw an article which was saying it had possible links to disability in children where the mother had been taking it. Not sure it's proven yet and may well still be under investigation. The link below is to a reliable source which looks fairly sure of facts.
