Epilepsy In The Media
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I haven't been seizure-free in a very long time. I keep seeing signs on social media that say, "seizure-free for # years". It's something that should be acknowledged and I'm happy for those individuals. Just curious though, for those who still have seizures, what would your sign say? I thought of a few: 1) "I still have seizures and I'm thankful for the people in my life that are patient with me." (2) "I had a seizure last night, and I'm wondering if my medication actually works" (3) "I've… read more

@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member I would choose #1 with the addition: I am not quitting the battle to get it under control. I had 2 seizure free years, and I am going to get back to seizure free and keep it there.

I do not count on the medical world finding a cure. Remember (regardless of how hard it is), that you have a role to play to help the medications do their job. We all have our TOOLS (get good sleep, get stress under control, maintain a positive attitude) to help the meds. I can tell you that this works. When I was at my best and had all of my TOOLS working, my medications were more than enough to keep me seizure free. However, now that I have been in a down cycle for the last 2 years (I am hoping I am at my lowest low and can get out of it after the extra stress of Christmas is done) where my medications have had little help from me and my TOOLS.

I am someone still having seizures and my sign would be:
I have seizures and I live in the moment and am thankful when I wake up.I deal with the day as it comes to me.
I dont think of what will happen in the future or what did happen in the past.

They are always looking for a cure on epilepsy but it might not happen in my life time.

Number 1 for sure (as we must be thankful for the understanding of loved ones!) Epilepsy is not a bad thing its a thing in life only special people of God deal with because he made us stronger than most!

I don't let my seizures up set me. I alway looking for the positive. So if I seizured that day , I would look back on my day and find the good and fun things I did that day.
