Are Anyones Seizures Triggered By Cleaning Products Or Chemicals?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have been on the job search almost the entire year of 2016, finally I got a job offer as custodian for a middle school. (I know all about the risks of using tools and laddders. etc) my concern is that the cleaning supplies they use are straight up chemicals. I was worried about the cleaning chemicals inducing a seizure. has this happened to anyone else? even if it was a household cleaner?

Hey guys, I have lived with my epilepsy since my early twenties, I have been a house cleaner, must say some of the bleaches etc always have me a high, which lasted a couple of hours, red eyes etc,
Since having surgery, holy crap!! The worst things to effect me are those household stick infusers, if I am in the same room I can taste the smell in them, and even when the scent has worn down, I can taste the airborne chemical. It's horrible. I am more sensitive to chrmicals now, have always preferred natural cleaning, so will be cleaning with natural products only now.
Hope my yabber has made sense and maybe helped.

My sisters epilepsy is created a warning, so when she smells bleach in her house it means she's unwell

I worked around chemicals in my job as a painter, my doctor seemed concerned at first until I told him I always had to wear a mask. He said anytime you work around chemicals wear a mask so as not to breathe them in and gloves to keep them from coming in contact with your skin. Congratulations on the job by the way

inhilation of some chemicals can have paycholelic effects. however epilepsy is more sensitive to alcohol. i agree with the merissa protect yourself as best you can. ability to breath is vital as the brain needs oxygen
