I know it's only the start of November but, I've seen no awarness things what so ever for epilepsy. I saw some people share the purple ribbon on social media along with the poppy for Remembrance Day! But they said tge ribbon was for autism. But isn't the autism ribbon like a jigsaw like pattern?
Now when I say this please PLEASE do not take it the wrong way I'm not intending to be offensive or ignorant: Why is autism treated like its a death sentence? Epilepsy isn't ether but it can be quite… read more
@A MyEpilepsyTeam Member wow you have faith!! Saying that I can't count all the different tablets I've tried using my hands and feet lol. Good luck to ya!
I believe one of the biggest neglects with Elilepsy Awareness is Educating the Public.
It seems to me that when someone hears of an Epileptic Seizure the first thing they thing of is what they have heard on the media regarding a Grand Mal type seizure, and the false things I believe to remedy the situation they have heard sbout.
1- There are so many types of seizures out there and each persons reaction is different
2- There are Complex Partial, tremor type, mild loose reaction to ssurrounding, drop seizures, and petite mal to mention a couple. I personally have the Complex Partial seizures, it is almost like I space out, loose my balance sometimes, become unsteady on my feet, and act confused for awhile most times. In my case most of the time it someone notices they can sit me down on the floor and I'll return to normal in several minutes. I tell all my friends about my seizures just in case something should happen. Many times people that want to help seem to over react I think. They want to hold you down, sometimes, try to restrain you to much. They just need to help keep you safe and away l
I found this on Epilepsy Action and this is in the U.K. there is a day for 2017 but it doesn't specify when.
Purple Day #purpleday
How does epilepsy make you feel?
Purple Day – on 26 March – is the one day of the year where people across the globe truly work together to bring epilepsy out of the shadows.
When I was married to my 1st husband, I started having a seizure in the middle of the night. Thinking I could stop it if I could just get to the bathroom and my meds, I got out of bed. When I got up, I fell and hit my head on the edge of the bedside table. I was having a sleeping EEG at Pendleton within the month!(We were in 29 Palms, CA)
Yes! There have been nights we weren't sure if I was going to make it out of an episode of blood poisoning/accidental overdose - and don't forget about SUDEP. More of the general public really needs to be educated about epilepsy.
