Birth Control?
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I want to take the birth control pill but don't know if it would affect my epilepsy medication. I currently take Keppra. Help?

Check with your doctor. I was told the pill was not an option because the seizure meds would lower its effectiveness.

Hi, I was advised by my GP that either the coil (both copper/mirena) or the depo shot were the best choices, I'm on quite high doses of keppra, lamictal and zonegran. I'd definitely ask first just to be safe, excuse the choice of words x

I would ask the doctor. I have horrid seizures if I have any sort of period so I take the pill and never take the week I should have a period. I'm on vimpat lamictal tripetal and zonegran. and it makes a massive difference if I miss a pill.
