Dose ALL Seizures Involve Jerking
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was told that a petti-mal seizure wasn't a seizure. That one HAD to stiffen and jerk. Just wanting to find out if I'm ok or is their another health reason I need to worry about.

No not all seizures involve jerking. A peti mal is a type of seizure. They are probably one of the hard ones for people to detect. They Usually involve us blacking out and for what I was told , by family and friends, that I look like I'm day dreaming, have a blank stare, and that I mentally look like I'm in another world. There are many kinds of seizures. The best thing to do is check epilepsy.com and search on they different seizures.

Not all seizures involve jerking, you can also be having what is seizure activity which is not the actual seizure but your brain is having seizure activity which can mean your meds need to be checked. I also was fainting , tremors, blurred vision, and extra exhausted.

Pet Mal seizures many people don't understand. The first thing I've noticed when other people hear of seizures, They relate all seizures to the Grand Mal type. I've got complex partial seizure type. Most times I might act confused, A blank stare with my eyes and just act disorganized. I will probably loose my balance, so I've told my friends/family to sit me down on the ground. After several minutes I should be ok again. If I'm tired that might trigger their happenings more. Tell all your friends what might happen, and à little heads up on what to do if one occurs to keep them informed.

I've had epilepsy for my entire life and some of them petimal seizures. Yes they are a seizure. They are similar to absence seizures. If you have a brief loss of consciousness or you stare off or roll the eyes.
