Trouble Sleeping
A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi guys, my husband has a very hard time getting to sleep and staying asleep and when he has a bad night of sleep he usually has a seizure. Then he is so exhausted he sleeps almost all day, then can't get to sleep at night and such is the vicious cycle. His doctor suggested benadryl or melatonin but does anyone else have some tried and true ways to get better sleep that aren't medication related. Like a better night time routinue?

I had that problem and to solve it I had to start taking my meds earlier, right after dinner. Gave them a chance to kick in. Right after taking them I get a little boost of energy and then finally,I start calming down and after about a hour or two I am ready for bed.

Also, after 8ish, dont watch a bright TV and no computer screens; also turn off bright lights. Your eyes take awhile to relax, so quality sleep is delayed.

Another natural sleep aid is Valarian Root. It stinks, but works great.

Chamomile was best for me. I drink chamomile tea. Or, i also use Lavendar oil. The fragrance is relaxing, or i apply it to the soft skin area... Soft part of foot, or between toes, is best.
