A MyEpilepsyTeam Member asked a question 💭

As most of you may know, I am a writer. My next Epilepsy column is on 'Sports and Epilepsy'. Can anybody tell me-did you have to give any sports/fitness up because of your condition? I had to quit Horse riding and swimming due to frequent seizures. Did you find ways to make fitness safer for you?

Jeff,
I go in the pool with someone else or do a walk too. Never do anything by Myself but never stop enjoying life!

Tammy,
It's called liability. If something happens to You during the game causing a seizure to occur . You wind up in the hospital because of the injuries, a lawsuit against the school may happen. That's what the School district considers.

I have been dancing (classical ballet) for 13 years and I recently had to stop because I was so dizzy that I could do the moves and so tired that I didn't want to even go. I have multiple partial seizures in a row and after I can sleep forever it feels like. Now that I am starting to get it under control I am going to try again but sports with Epilepsy, for me anyways, is VERY difficult, but it probably depends on who you are and what sport it is.

If ever I go swimming alone, which is a rarity,i always make the lifeguards aware of my condition. At the end of the day that's what they're there for not just to stand & spectate lol
